A black and white photograph with a soft sepia tone, taken low over a wide, empty beach. A thin line of white foam curves from the lower right corner across damp sand, leading the eye toward the middle of the frame where the wave breaks into lace-like froth.
The water has been slowed by a long exposure, so it looks smooth and silky near the shore. Above a low, level horizon, dark clouds build and break apart with bright edges. A faint headland sits on the far right, and the sky takes up almost half the picture.
