About Sly As A Fox
A red fox is shown from the shoulders up, seen from behind and side-on, its head turned to the right in profile. The body is built from loose watercolour washes in rust, burnt orange and warm brick, with deeper brown pooling along the spine and at the base of the tall pointed ears. Cool grey-violet washes mark the muzzle, throat and chest. The paint edges bleed and feather into the white ground, with visible water blooms, granulation and dry-brush gaps left unfilled.
The lower body and chest dissolve into the paper, so the animal reads as half-formed and alert rather than fully drawn. It is a quiet, watchful image with a limited palette and plenty of breathing space around the subject.
Suits kids' rooms and nurseries, a hallway run or a home office wall where one calm image is enough. The large white ground works against pale walls, white-painted timber and light oak. Pair it with other watercolour animals, linen bedding, rattan and terracotta pots, or hang it alone above a low bookshelf.
