A weathered slatted fence runs across the middle of a square frame, starting at the left edge and stepping back toward a corner post on the right. Snow covers the dunes on both sides, and the fence line leads the eye from the low foreground into the distance.
The sky takes up the top half in soft grey, darkening to a heavy band of cloud near the horizon on the left. Tufts of dune grass poke through the drifted snow in the foreground. It is a black and white photograph, with crisp white snow set against dark fence posts and a moody, quiet sky.
