A single yacht fills the lower centre of this portrait photograph, its huge spinnaker billowing upward in bands of yellow, orange and deep red. The sail is lit from the side, so the panels glow against the pale blue-grey sky. A small red fender and the dark cockpit sit just below, with a white jib catching the light at the right.
Three more sailboats sit further back on the horizon, one with a plain white sail on the left, one in blue, red and yellow panels, and one with blue and white stripes on the right. The water is choppy and dark slate, with a patch of orange reflection under the lead boat. A soft haze flattens the horizon and keeps the sky calm and empty above the sails.
