About Cherry Blossom Vases
Three vessels sit on a pale ledge in a square composition. A tall narrow bottle rises at the left, its neck reaching almost to the top edge. In front of it stand two rounded jars in bronze and olive brown, their surfaces scratched with fine pale lines that catch the light. A thin dark branch arches out of the right-hand jar, carrying small pink blossoms that scatter across the muted background. To the right, a square of four recessed panels is pressed faintly into the wall.
The paint is laid in flat, overlapping blocks of warm grey, ochre and cream, dragged and scraped so the weave and earlier layers show through. Only the blossoms carry strong colour. It is a quiet, restrained still life where texture does most of the work.
Suits a dining room, hallway or bedroom with warm neutral walls. It sits well above a timber sideboard or a linen bedhead, and pairs with stone, rattan and brushed bronze. The small pink blossoms give a single point of colour in rooms built around beige, taupe and soft grey. Browse more modern art, square paintings, all hand-painted oil paintings.
