About Charging Bull in Firelight
A black bull fills the square canvas, charging straight at the viewer with its head lowered and shoulders bunched into a heavy hump. The body is painted in near-black darks warmed by red and plum along the spine, with muzzle and brow lifted by touches of orange light. Two pale horns sweep wide from the skull, tipped in cream and shadowed underneath. One front leg is raised mid-stride, the hoof dark against the ground, while loose strokes suggest dust kicked up beneath.
The background is a burst of orange, scarlet and ochre, brushed outward from behind the animal in radiating strokes so the bull appears backlit by fire. Edges of the canvas darken to rust and deep violet, with palette-knife scrapes breaking the surface. The painting reads as raw movement and weight, forward energy held in a single square frame.
Strong enough to carry a wide lounge room wall or a stairwell landing. It suits dark timber, leather and steel, and works over a black or tan sofa. The orange field lifts white, grey or charcoal walls, and the square shape sits well above a sideboard, bar or office desk. Browse more modern art, square paintings, all hand-painted oil paintings.
