A small cairn of five pale, rounded stones sits on the left of the frame, on coarse orange-gold sand. It casts a long, soft shadow to the left. A curling edge of white sea foam wraps around its base, leading the eye from the lower left across the beach.
Beyond the foam, the shallow water runs from rusty pink over the sand to deep teal and blue near the horizon. A dark, tree-covered headland rises on the right with the sun glowing low behind it, turning the sky amber and fading to cool blue at the top. This is a colour photograph.
