A red deer stag faces the viewer straight on, head and neck filling the lower centre of a square frame. Its eyes are dark and alert, the muzzle is black with a pale rim, and the ears flick out to each side with orange inner edges. Brushy strokes in brown, cream and tan model the face and chest.
Two tall sets of antlers sweep up and outward, reaching the top corners and the left and right edges. They are drawn in bone white, amber and near-black. Behind the animal the background is a worn, scratched black with vertical streaks that drip down into a muddy brown band along the bottom, giving the surface a weathered, textured look.
