About Stargazer I
A square field of diffused watercolour washes fills the canvas edge to edge, with no hard lines anywhere in the composition. Pale mauve and lilac spread out from the corners, meeting a cooler periwinkle blue that gathers just above and left of centre, where a small pocket of slate grey sits like the darkest point of a cloud. Chalky off-white areas bloom through the upper right and lower left, softening the blue. A faint pink band runs along the very bottom edge.
The surface shows the grain of watercolour paper reproduced in the print: fine speckling, feathered bleed lines where one wash met another while damp, and mottled granulation in the deeper blue patches. Its character is quiet and atmospheric, more sky than object, calm enough to read as a colour field rather than a picture of anything.
Suits bedrooms, nurseries, bathrooms and quiet reading corners where a soft colour is wanted rather than a strong image. Works over a bed with white or pale grey linen, above a freestanding bath, or in a home office with oak and cane furniture. Pairs neatly with a second square wash print in matching lilac tones.
