A timber jetty runs from the bottom of the frame towards the horizon, its planks narrowing in a strong central line. Weathered posts stand along both edges and at the far end, and a few lean slightly. The deck is dark and grainy, with each board clearly visible in the foreground.
Long exposure has turned the water into a flat, milky grey and the clouds into soft horizontal streaks. Two low piles of rock sit on either side, with a bare sapling on the left. The horizon is a pale glowing band under a dark sky. This is a square black and white photograph with no colour at all.
