A red and cream banded lighthouse stands at the right end of a long stone pier, with a small white lantern room and a rust-streaked railing at the top. A large wave has just hit the pier wall and thrown a tall plume of white spray toward the tower, hiding part of its base.
The sky is a flat, heavy charcoal grey, and low sunlight picks out the brick stripes and the bright foam against it. The foreground sea is choppy and brown-grey, with a railed walkway running along the pier on the left. It is a sharp, natural photograph of rough weather.
