A huge wave rises from the left and breaks into a towering mass of white spray, its curled crest hanging over a dark stone seawall. The photograph freezes the water mid-collapse, so the foam looks fine and feathery, with streaks of surge running down the face of the wave.
On the right, a small white lighthouse with a glowing red lamp stands at the end of the wall, dwarfed by the spray. Heavy slate-grey clouds fill the top of the frame, with a thin band of pale pink light along the horizon. The palette is cool steel blue, grey and white.
