A wooden rowboat fills the lower right of the frame, its bow tilted toward the viewer and resting on pale golden sand. The interior is deep red-brown timber with two slim seats, and white painted boards sit in the hull. A cream and grey outer edge runs along the gunwale and down the side of the hull.
Heavy storm cloud covers most of the sky, running from blue-grey and near black on the left to burning orange and red on the right. A bright yellow break in the cloud sits just above the horizon. On the left, a dark sea rolls in with lines of white surf and wet sand reflecting the glow. The image reads as a dramatic, richly saturated photograph.
