A wide, flat beach fills the lower half of the picture, its pale sand broken by small figures in dark and white clothing, a few carrying red parasols. Striped bathing tents in blue, white and red stand along the middle distance, with a small timber hut beside them. Soft shadows stretch across the foreground sand.
The upper two thirds is sky, built from thick, textured strokes of cream and white cloud over patches of soft blue. At the left, two sailboats with tan sails sit on a calm, low horizon. On the right, a row of pale cream houses with grey roofs sits beside green scrub. The surface looks like thick impasto oil work, with a loose, impressionist feel.
