Taken from beneath a timber pier, the photograph looks along rows of weathered piles toward a small sun caught between them. The sun throws a sharp starburst of rays, and the underside of the deck forms dark beams overhead. The piles are streaked with pale salt marks and barnacle stains at the waterline.
A long exposure has smoothed the sea into soft, glassy bands of amber and brown. A narrow orange reflection runs straight from the sun down to the bottom edge of the frame. The sky glows in deep orange at the left and yellow at the right, above a flat, distant horizon.
