A tightly packed bunch of yellow daffodils fills the portrait frame, their trumpets and petals layered over one another in transparent washes. Several heads face outward at different angles, with warm orange pooling in the centres of the cups. The edges of the petals blur softly into the paint around them.
Behind the flowers, the background is built from blocks of deep blue, violet and teal, with pale turquoise patches at the upper right. Green stems cross in the lower half and run down into streaks and drips of teal and olive. Small dark splatters and bare white paper at the bottom add to the loose watercolour look.
