About Sunset Jetty

A weathered timber jetty runs from the bottom edge of the frame straight into the centre of the picture, its grey planks catching pale light and narrowing to a point on the horizon. Short mooring posts line both sides, some leaning. The lake either side has been smoothed by a long exposure into a sheet of soft sage green and cream, with no ripples. Low hills sit across the far shore in dark silhouette, one patched with snow. Above them the sky burns copper, rust and apricot through streaked cloud.

The mood is quiet and symmetrical, with the strong central perspective pulling the eye out to the horizon line. Warm sky against cool green water gives the image its contrast, while the grain and split ends of the jetty timber are the only rough texture in an otherwise glassy scene.

Suits a bedroom above the bedhead, a hallway end wall or a home office where the long perspective gives depth.
