Two rows of dark timber posts stand in shallow water, the remains of an old pier or jetty. The left group is tightly packed, while the right group stretches out in a broken line toward the edge of the frame. A long exposure has smoothed the surf into soft, misty streaks.
The sky fills the top quarter with deep orange and amber, fading to pale yellow above a straight horizon. A few thin, dark clouds drift across it. Below, the water turns from slate blue to lilac, and the foreground sand glows a pale pink. It is a photograph with a calm, quiet mood.
