A large wave breaks over a line of dark rocks at the centre of the frame, throwing a thick plume of white spray up against the sky. Smaller rocks and a pointed stack sit just behind the burst, so the foam appears to climb the stone.
The sky is a smooth wash of amber and yellow fading to soft peach near the horizon. On the right a tall, flat-topped cliff catches warm light on its textured face, while a darker headland rises on the left. In the foreground, streaky white foam runs over blue-grey water with a hint of green in the swell. It is a photograph with a long, soft exposure feel.
