About Sydney City Centre at Night
A night photograph taken across Sydney Harbour, with the water filling the lower third as a near-black sheet holding soft vertical reflections of the city lights. The CBD towers rise through the middle band, windows lit in white, gold and cold blue, with a dark treeline and a string of amber streetlights along the foreshore. At the right, the Opera House sails glow pale cream against the darker buildings behind. Above, heavy cloud catches the city's light and turns warm grey against a deep blue sky.
The mood is quiet rather than busy: a long exposure has smoothed the harbour water and softened the cloud, so the picture reads as calm and orderly despite the density of lights.
