A black and green steam locomotive fills the frame, seen from track level so its huge driving wheels loom over the page. Red crank pins and a yellow connecting rod cut across the wheels. A small boy in a green jumper and pale hat stands at the lower left, looking up. A whistle or horn juts in at the top.
Tall, thin cream capitals spell "LNER" at the top left. On the right, gold lettering reads "TAKE ME by THE FLYING SCOTSMAN", then "LEAVES KING'S CROSS AT 10 A.M. EVERY WEEK-DAY". At the base is "WITH APOLOGIES TO THE Southern Railway". Olive, black and gold sit inside a thin red border, in a flat, geometric style of the inter-war years.
