On the left, a narrow black panel carries tone-on-tone botanical engravings in grey-brown: lily-like blooms with long leaves and a cluster of full, ruffled flowers. The same flowers appear inside the teapot's body, so the pattern seems to fill the pot. The look is Victorian book illustration, with no lettering visible.
