About Rosebound King of Lions
A lion's head sits on the body of a seated monarch, dressed in a white doublet and breeches with a red sash, dark velvet cloak and an ornate gold crown. The lion wears yellow-lensed sunglasses and a lace cravat, one paw-like hand resting on a carved timber chair. The background is an aged olive-gold wall with faint script and a hanging drape. A thick border of blush and cream roses wraps the edges, with monarch and pale butterflies scattered through the blooms and the word RECOGNITION printed vertically at the right.
The character is deadpan and comic: old-master pomp collided with sunglasses and a flower crown of roses. It reads as a joke and a genuinely handsome portrait at the same time.
Works in a hallway, bar area, home office or a bedroom that needs a bit of humour. The olive-gold ground suits warm white and sage walls, timber furniture and brass fittings, while the blush roses pick up pink velvet, linen cushions and dusty rose bedding. Good as a single statement above a console or sideboard. Browse more brown and earthy art, silver and grey art, or read Art above the bed: what size and how high.
