A large spiral shell fills the centre of the square, its surface marked with jagged cream and dark brown stripes that look like animal markings. Fine engraved ridges run along the lower whorls, and the pointed tip at the bottom glows a warm gold. The shell sits cleanly on top of the background, with a soft dark outline.
Behind it is a navy blue sea chart in faded, mottled tones. Compass roses sit at the left and right edges, with thin rhumb lines fanning across the surface. French lettering is legible: "OCEAN", "Occi", "MER", "ATLANTIQUE", "ALEMAGNE", "MER MEDITERRANEE", "ROYAUME D'ALGER" and "BARBARIE". Coastlines of Britain, Europe and North Africa appear in pale tan linework.
