Two fish are stacked one above the other on a plain cream background, both facing in opposite directions. The upper fish is a soft grey-blue with a pale belly, a few scattered dark spots along its flank, an open mouth, a round dark eye and a tail washed in warm tan and brown.
The lower fish is a trout with an olive and golden back, a blush of pink and red along its side and a dense scatter of small black spots. Its fins are grey and speckled, and its eye is yellow. The watercolour washes pool and blend at the edges, leaving visible pigment variation and plenty of bare paper around each fish.
