About Under The Rain
A corner café fills the right two-thirds of the canvas, its bright red awning running along both street faces beneath a pink-washed building with shuttered upper windows and window boxes of small green and red flowers. Round tables in white cloths and pale cane-backed chairs line the footpath, each with a red flower and glasses. At left, a leafy tree in ochre and olive rises over more tables, and a tall dark lamp post breaks the awning line at right.
In the centre foreground a couple stand close together beneath a small red umbrella, the woman in a pale coat, the man in dark grey, their shapes soft and unfinished. Wet pavement is laid in broad horizontal strokes of pink, mauve and warm grey that carry blurred reflections of the awning. The mood is quiet and hazy, more about light and damp air than detail.
Suits dining rooms, kitchens and hallways where the red awning can pick up warm accents. Works above a sideboard or a long dining table, and pairs with timber furniture, cream walls, brass lighting and rattan chairs. Also a good fit for cafés, wine bars and a wall near a coffee station.
