About Vive La Bourgogne
Seven tall bottles stand shoulder to shoulder across a loosely brushed pale blue background. From left: an olive green bottle with a red postmark label, a deep violet one, a brown bottle carrying a round cream label reading Sommet de la Tour Eiffel, Mai 1916, a blue bottle printed with the Eiffel Tower itself, a golden yellow bottle ringed with pale spirals, a burnt orange rum bottle, a purple bottle with a cancelled April postmark, and a red bottle at the right edge.
Torn paper edges, stamped numerals and scribbled script sit over flat washes of colour, so the labels read as collage rather than paint. The mood is cheerful and slightly worn, like a shelf of souvenir bottles kept for their labels.
Made for dining rooms, kitchens and butler's pantries, above a sideboard or wine rack, and equally at home in a bar area or cafe. The purple, orange and red bottles lift white or pale grey walls and sit well with timber furniture, rattan chairs and simple black-framed photographs nearby.
