About Water Garden Buddha
A seated Buddha fills the centre of this square composition, drawn in dark brown almost like a stencil or stamp: coiled topknot hair, lowered eyes, long draped robes and hands resting in the lap above a broad lotus base. The background is a layered wash of olive green, mustard gold, pale grey and cream. To the left sits a column of overlapping circles, like stacked coins or water rings, while faded floral and leaf shapes drift across the lower right corner and upper edge.
The surface looks worn and printed over many times, with patchy pigment, mottled staining and edges that break up rather than sit crisp. The character is calm and meditative, with an aged, weathered quality closer to a rubbing or old wall fresco than a clean graphic.
Suits bedrooms, hallways and home offices where a quiet focal point is wanted, and works in yoga or treatment rooms. The olive, gold and grey palette pairs with rattan, linen bedding, dark timber furniture and brass lamps, and sits comfortably in beach house and Asian-influenced interiors alongside plants in earthy pots.
