A single white water lily fills most of the frame, photographed close up in sharp focus. Its pointed petals fan outward in layers, with soft grey shading near the bases and faint lines running along each petal. A cluster of upright yellow stamens sits at the centre, bright against the white.
Behind the flower the pond is dark blue-green and softly blurred. Round green lily pads sit at the left and top, and a few brown, dried patches show on them. Daylight falls on the petals from the front, giving a clean, bright photograph with a shallow depth of field..
