Four white peonies stand on thin dark stems across a landscape canvas. Two large open blooms sit at upper left and centre, a third ruffled bloom at upper right, and a small closed bud at lower right. The centre flower shows a golden-yellow heart, and soft grey shadows gather under the petals.
Behind the flowers, pale teal leaves with fine hatched markings climb on slender stems, drawn as flat outlines so they recede. The ground moves from weathered blue-grey at the top through cream and sand to rusty orange-brown along the bottom edge. The surface looks mottled and canvas-textured, in a soft painterly style.
