A tall stone arch frames the scene, with a wrought iron gate on the left worked in looping scrolls and spirals. Four pendants of lilac wisteria hang from a leafy vine across the top, their tiny blossoms packed into soft, tapering clusters. The vine trails down the right-hand column among pale green leaves.
Through the opening, a row of dark cypress trees stands in a golden, hazy light that fades to amber and sepia. The stone has a scratched, plaster-like texture in copper and ochre tones. At the bottom right, red poppies with yellow-green centres and a few closed buds lean into the frame. The look is a textured, painterly Tuscan-style garden scene.
