A large golden-yellow flower fills the centre of this square image, its ruffled petals open around a small green centre. A deep red bloom sits behind it at lower left, and part of another red flower enters the top right corner. In the lower right, a grey pen-style sketch of a rose with leaves adds a quieter note.
A white butterfly with black edges and rows of small pink dots rests at upper left. Gold scrollwork curls across the sage-grey background, which is streaked with soft lilac. Faint handwritten script runs down the right side, with fragments readable as "There are sweetly", "In the music of the" and "The coldes". The mix of botanical sketch, script and gilt flourish gives it an old scrapbook feel.
