This is a close-up photograph of zebras standing tightly together, cropped so no heads or legs show. Three bodies fill the frame: one across the top left, one rising on the right, and one curving along the bottom. Each carries its own stripe direction, so the black and white bands cross and collide at different angles.
Warm sunlight catches the white stripes, tinting some of them cream and a few a pale gold, while the black bands stay deep and glossy. Short bristly mane hairs stand up in the centre, tipped with light. The detail is sharp enough to show the texture of the coat, giving the whole image a graphic, almost abstract rhythm.
