About Squares II
The square composition is built from four horizontal bands, each filled with narrow and wide rectangles butted edge to edge like tiles. Inside every rectangle sits a soft wash of grey ink that bleeds outward with feathered edges, forming blurred ovals, bands and cloudy patches. Some panels are almost black, others fade to bare off-white, and the tonal jumps between neighbours create a stepped, checkerboard rhythm. Fine paper grain and the pale seams between panels stay visible across the whole surface.
Its character is quiet and methodical: a controlled grid holding loose, watery marks, so the work reads as calm and graphic rather than busy. The restricted charcoal-to-ivory range keeps it easy on the eye at any scale.
Works in living rooms and bedrooms with white or grey walls, pale timber and linen upholstery, and suits a home office above a desk or a dining room sideboard. Pairs well with black-framed photography, matte black lighting and jute or wool rugs. The square shape fits neatly between two windows or centred over a low console.
