About Venice Harbour Boats
A red-hulled sailing boat sits at the centre of the composition, its tall rigging and thin dark masts rising into a sky of yellow, apricot and soft pink. A smaller pale blue boat is moored to the left, its reflection breaking into ribbons on the still water. To the right, a waterfront building in orange, red and blue stands on timber piles, with a blue-roofed shed beside it. Thick ridges and flat blade marks of colour give the sky and water a heavily worked, ridged surface.
Small dark birds drift across the yellow band of light near the horizon, and the foreground water carries streaks of orange and rust pulled straight down from the hull. The character here is warm and busy: strong colour laid in broad slabs, with the harbour read more through light and shape than fine detail.
Suits a living room with warm timber, terracotta or cream walls, and works above a sideboard or sofa where its reds and yellows can carry the room. Also good in a beach house hallway or a home office. Pair it with rattan, brass lamps and plain linen rather than other busy patterns.
