About Sunburst over Still Water
A band of burnt orange and rust runs across the lower half of the canvas, broken by dark ridges and flecks of near-black that read as a shoreline or low hills. Behind it the paint lifts into a white glow at the centre, as if light is breaking through, then softens upward into pale blue and cool grey. At the lower right, smooth blue and white sweeps suggest flat water, with a pale reflection of the light falling straight down through the orange. The blending is wet-in-wet and hazy, with a few raised, scraped ridges of thicker paint along the horizon line.
The mood is quiet and warm rather than dramatic: a simple contrast of hot orange against cool blue, held together by the soft white centre.
Works above a sofa in a living room with neutral walls, or in a bedroom where the blue keeps things calm. The orange picks up timber floors, tan leather and rattan, while the pale blue suits grey or white joinery. Good over a sideboard or bedhead in a wide horizontal space.
