About Sunlight on Still Water
The canvas is filled edge to edge with the surface of water seen from directly above, with no horizon and no shoreline. Through the upper half, long S-shaped ribbons of white, apricot and warm sand curve and double back across deeper cobalt and mid-blue bands, reading as light catching the crest of slow ripples. Lower down the marks flatten and widen into soft horizontal bars of lilac, pale peach and grey-blue, and small patches of green-teal sit along the left edge.
The paint is laid on in long, wet, dragged strokes that blend at the edges, so colours melt into one another rather than meeting sharply. Brush ridges catch across the pale passages, giving low relief without heavy impasto. Its character is calm and unhurried, a quiet study of reflected light rather than a bold statement piece.
Suits bedrooms, bathrooms and ensuites, coastal and Hamptons-style living rooms, and consulting or treatment rooms where a quiet wall is wanted. The portrait shape works well above a bedhead, a hall console or a narrow chimney breast. Pairs with white or pale grey walls, linen upholstery, pale oak and brushed nickel or chrome fittings.
