About The Fashion Parade
Four horizontal rows of small standing figures are spread across an unpainted white ground, with no floor, horizon or background detail apart from faint grey shadows at their feet. Each figure is roughly ten centimetres tall in proportion to the canvas and built from a handful of loaded brushstrokes: a dab for the head, a hat or cap in red, blue or black, then a coat, dress, jacket or pair of trousers in red, orange, yellow, turquoise, green and violet. Faces are left blank.
The upper rows include a pair in denim, figures carrying bags and folders, and a woman in a wide pale hat; the lowest row lines up nine figures shoulder to shoulder like a runway finale. A small signature sits in the lower left. The character is light and observational, more sketchbook than portrait, and the empty white space does as much work as the colour.
Suits a hallway, dressing room, boutique fitting area or a child's bedroom where the white ground keeps things airy. Works above a low sideboard or against pale grey, white or soft pink walls, and pairs well with pale timber, rattan and a single bright cushion or rug picking up the reds and yellows.
