About Weathered Copper and Slate
The canvas is built from broad rectangular blocks laid side by side, as if sections of a weathered wall have been patched over one another. A pale white-grey slab sits left of centre and anchors the composition, surrounded by cooler slate and blue-grey passages. Copper and rust-orange marks run in horizontal bars through the middle and down the right edge, with small ochre flecks catching the eye. Dense black-charcoal patches sit at the far left and lower right, giving the lighter areas more lift.
Paint is dragged and scraped rather than blended, so under-layers show through as streaks and the edges of each block stay ragged. Vertical drips and thin runs break the horizontal bands, and ridges of thicker paint hold the light along the white and copper areas. The overall character is quiet and industrial, closer to rusted metal and concrete than to any landscape.
Suits living rooms and hallways with grey, white or timber walls, and works well above a charcoal sofa or a concrete-look sideboard. The copper notes pick up brass or leather details, tan cushions and warm lighting. Also a steady choice for an office or meeting room where a quieter, neutral abstract is wanted.
