About Silver Birch Veil
The canvas is built from tall vertical bands that read like a screen of slender trunks. Wide sweeps of white and pale grey run top to bottom, cut by narrow dark navy and charcoal lines and softened by streaks of teal, aqua and muted green. Thick white impasto is dragged and dabbed across the middle band, catching the light in raised ridges and flecks. Near the lower left sits a small rectangular block of pale green and grey, drawn with fine ruled lines, the one geometric note in an otherwise brushy field.
Colour is cool and washed back, with most of the interest coming from surface: scraped paint, dry-brush drag marks and crusted highlights rather than strong shapes. The character is quiet and wintry, closer to filtered light through bare branches than to any bold statement.
Suits a pale or grey-walled living room, a bedroom above a low bed head, or a wide hallway where a long horizontal shape works. It sits well with timber floors, linen upholstery, brushed nickel or chrome fittings, and teal or soft green cushions. Good over a sideboard or a two-seater sofa.
