About A New Beginning
The canvas is washed in warm ochre and gold, deepening to burnt orange and brown at the upper left and along the lower edges. Right of centre sits a tilted quadrilateral panel outlined in darker tan, and inside it a raised concentric spiral, like the whorl of a shell, catching a pale highlight on its left side. A thin stem with four pointed leaves, painted in olive and yellow-gold, rises up the left third of the picture.
Faint looping script runs in rows across the middle and lower field, scratched rather than written, with a single long horizontal stroke below the centre. The surface is heavily worked: dry-brushed layers, fine crackle and troweled texture catch light across the whole panel. Its character is quiet and weathered, closer to an old plastered wall than a picture, with one bright focal point.
Suits warm neutral rooms: a living room with tan leather, linen or timber furniture, a hallway above a hall table, or a bedroom over the bed head. It pairs with brass or bronze lamps, terracotta pots and jute rugs, and sits comfortably against cream, sand or soft white walls.
