About African Animal II
A solid black big cat, panther-like with a long curved tail and low slung body, walks from left to right across the centre of this square artwork. Behind it sits a red-brown ground with faint vertical streaks, filled with rows of pointed leaf or eye shapes. Each shape is built from concentric outlines in burnt orange, red, sky blue, mustard and cream, so the pattern reads as repeating flames or petals. A small signature sits in the lower right corner.
The mood is bold and graphic: one flat black form against a busy, warm-toned pattern, with the animal's outline kept simple so the silhouette does the work. The slightly uneven edges of the leaf shapes and the streaked background give it a relaxed, folk art feel rather than a precise geometric one.
Works in a living room with rust, terracotta or tan furnishings, in a hallway that needs a spot of colour, or above a timber sideboard.
