About African Animal IV
A solid black rhinoceros stands in profile across the centre of the square, facing left, its two horns, small pointed ears and heavy folded legs read purely as silhouette with no interior detail. Behind it the background is built from horizontal bands: red triangle and diamond motifs, wavy brown ribbons filled with blue and tan ticks, a row of green and gold zigzags, and circular red and blue medallions that peek out either side of the animal's body. A strip of red and gold vertical bars closes the bottom edge.
The colours are warm and saturated, with brick red and antique gold carrying most of the surface and pale blue used as relief. The woven texture of the canvas shows through the flat colour areas, and a small signature sits in the lower right corner. The character of the piece is bold and graphic: a single dark shape holding still against a busy, hand-drawn tribal pattern.
Works in a living room above a low sideboard, in a home office, or in a child's or teen's bedroom where the rhino shape reads clearly from across the room. It sits well with rattan, timber and leather, terracotta or kilim rugs, and pairs neatly with the other African Animal prints in the series.
