About African Animal Jewel I
A solid black elephant stands in profile across the centre of this square composition, facing right, trunk hanging low and one back leg stepping forward. The body is filled flat in deep black with faint canvas weave showing through, so the shape reads as a clean silhouette rather than a modelled animal. Behind it, a cream ground carries rows of concentric diamonds in magenta, orange, olive green, teal, purple and black, each one drawn with loose, uneven edges that leave visible gaps of bare cream between the lines.
The diamonds sit slightly off-grid, some larger and some squeezed, which keeps the background lively instead of mechanical. A small signature appears in the lower right corner. The character of the work is bold and graphic: one heavy black form holding steady against a busy, tribal-style pattern of jewel colours.
Works in a living room above a low sideboard, in a child's or teen bedroom, or in a home office needing one strong colour anchor. The square format suits a chimney breast or a wall between windows. Pair it with cream walls, rattan or timber furniture, and cushions picking up the magenta, olive or teal.
