About African Montage
Four African animals overlap in a single upright composition. A male lion fills the centre-left with a thick tawny mane and open mouth, his amber eyes looking straight out. Behind his shoulder a zebra turns its striped head and neck towards the right edge, and a second zebra head appears lower down. A grey elephant with curved white tusks emerges faintly at the bottom left, while a long-necked heron stands high in the top right against a pale wash background.
The animals dissolve into one another rather than sitting in a scene, with drifting washes of ochre, cream and cool grey blurring their outlines. Fine dry-looking strokes suggest mane hair, zebra stripes and feathers, and the background stays soft and unfocused throughout. The effect is quiet and slightly faded, like a remembered image of the savannah rather than a documentary portrait.
Suits a living room with warm neutral walls, a hallway that needs a single strong focal point, or a home office above a timber desk. Pairs well with rattan, leather and linen, jute rugs and brass lamps. The ochre and grey palette works alongside beach house interiors and darker bedroom joinery.
