About African Royals IV
A seated figure fills the centre of the composition, rendered as a flat dark silhouette with a cobalt blue headwrap and a wide skirt printed with gold and cream doves in flight. The bodice and sleeve read as a pale cream houndstooth check, and a soft pink panel sits at the waist. Behind the figure is a carved chair back in pale buff, its arches and finials cut from textured paper. The upper half of the background is flat lemon yellow; the lower half is a rough rust orange block with visible fibres and a deckled, torn edge.
The picture is built from layered paper shapes rather than continuous tone, so every element has a clean cut edge and a slightly fibrous surface. The character is calm and graphic: still posture, bold blocks of colour and repeated bird motifs that carry the eye down through the skirt.
Works in a living room above a low sideboard, in an entry hall, or in a bedroom with white or warm sand walls. Pairs with rattan, black timber and brass, and with the other prints in the African Royals series hung as a set. The rust and yellow blocks sit well beside terracotta pots and linen in natural tones.
