About After The Rain
A lone figure in a long white dress and a wide dark hat walks along the wet sand, seen from behind, slightly right of centre. Her reflection streaks down into the glassy shallows below her. The beach runs in bands: a rust-brown foreground, a pale mirror-like strip of water, then a golden ochre dune line that fades toward a low dark headland on the right. Small dark rocks and a piece of driftwood sit in a shallow pool on the left, catching the light.
Above the horizon the sky carries heavy violet and grey cloud breaking open into pale blue and soft pink, with a hint of rain still trailing near the headland. The sea is a narrow band of blue with white surf lines and a tiny distant sail. Soft, blended edges and thin scraped marks give the surface a hazy, after-the-storm feel. The mood is quiet and reflective, more about weather and solitude than detail.
Suits a beach house living room, a bedroom above the bed head, or a home office wall that needs a quiet focal point. It sits well with white or pale grey walls, timber furniture, linen and rattan, and picks up rust, ochre and dusty violet in cushions, rugs or ceramics.
