About All Dressed Up II
A cropped figure fills most of the frame, shown from the shoulders down and cut off at the top edge. She wears a mustard yellow pinafore dress with shoulder straps that flares into a wide bell shape across the lower half of the picture. Her arm, rendered in a soft terracotta brown, bends at the elbow with the hand tucked into a pocket at the hip. The background is a flat, warm cream with no horizon or detail.
The surface has the grainy, speckled look of a hand-pulled block print, with pale flecks scattered through the yellow and brown areas where the ink has broken up. Edges are clean and slightly irregular rather than sharp. The character of the piece is quiet and graphic: one confident silhouette, two warm colours and a lot of empty space, with the pose doing all the storytelling.
Suits bedrooms, dressing areas, a ladies' powder room or a home office wall. The warm mustard and terracotta sit well with cream walls, rattan, oak furniture and linen bedding.
