About Along the Shore
A square abstract built in horizontal bands. The upper half is a warm dusty rose, dragged thin so the weave of the canvas shows through, broken by patches of ochre and gold on the left and a dark charcoal smear running from the right edge towards the centre. Below that, a thick ridge of cream and white paint runs across the lower third like surf, scraped flat with a blade so the edges catch the light. Small flecks of violet sit in the pale paint.
The effect is of a shoreline seen through haze, with the horizon and water only suggested. Its character is quiet and weathered rather than dramatic, held together by the single bright band of white across the base.
The warm rose and gold read well in bedrooms, sitting rooms and hallways with white, oatmeal or pale grey walls. It sits comfortably above a linen bedhead or a low timber sideboard, and pairs with brass lamps, rattan, and soft pink or plum textiles. The square shape suits a chimney breast or a narrow wall between doorways. Browse more the Statton Collection, abstract oil paintings, purple and pink art.
