About Amour
Two pale grey-white horses lean in from opposite sides of the canvas, their heads lowered until their muzzles almost touch at the centre. The horse on the right enters from the upper corner with a long arched neck and a shaggy forelock falling over one dark eye; the horse on the left comes in low from the edge, cheek turned towards the viewer. Behind them the ground is broken into a grid of grey, charcoal and off-white squares, with a dark arched recess and loose gold scribbles across the top left.
Brushwork is smooth and tonal on the horses, with soft modelling through the cheekbones and throat, while the background is scraped and textured so plaster-like marks show through the blocks. The mood is quiet and affectionate rather than dramatic, and the limited grey palette keeps it calm.
Works well above a bed or a long sideboard in a grey, white or stone-toned room, and suits hallways where a horizontal shape fits. The charcoal blocks sit comfortably with black metal frames, linen upholstery and timber floors, and the small gold scribbles pick up brass lamps or handles.
